about

"Christine Bougie is a musician’s musician. She seems to have played with everyone in town, has appeared on at least 30 recordings, and her own solo instrumental albums are critically acclaimed. Not the kind of player who actively chases the spotlight, she’s remained below the radar. We’d love to say that Hearts And Galaxies will be the album that finally propels her to greater fame, but it’s likelier to be another secret treasure enjoyed by far too few.

Let’s hope that prediction is wrong, since Bougie is a unique artist with the potential to reach a much wider audience than just musos. Her laid-back melodies, borrowing from jazz and roots music, are accessible to anyone, but they’re wrapped up in otherworldly textures that are more futuristic than easy-listening. There’s an odd tension between the comfortably mellow lap steel melodies and the subtle experimental sonic explorations in the background, and yet they feel completely natural and unforced. "
